Post Conference Retreat at
La Bassa Mar

image.png

An invitation to a post conference retreat, 12th-15th July, from La Bassa Mar, a self-organized volunteer-run collective space that is focusing on queer-trans*-feminist and anti-racist, decolonial politics, intersectional social justice and community organizing.

In order to build bridges between and across different queer and trans* feminist academic research and grassroot collectives, we, La Bassa Mar, would like to invite you to join us after the European Feminist Research Conference in Barcelona. We will host a post conference retreat from 12th-15th July 2025 at our collective space La Bassa Mar. In the midst of the rise of fascism in Europe we want to network and strengthen our connections but also recharge in a rural space, far from this hostile political climate.

What is La Bassa Mar?

La Bassa Mar is a self-organized volunteer-run collective space that is focusing on queer-trans*-feminist and anti-racist, decolonial politics, intersectional social justice and community organizing. We are not academics, but trans* community organizers, most of us BIPoC, involved in intersectional movement building.

The space aims at community care and movement building, for and by us: trans*, inter*, non-binary and queer people, centering those impacted by racism, systemic discrimination against migrants, ableism, classism, criminalization of sex workers. We offer a seminar house and retreat space in L’Ampolla, Tarragona, situated two hours south of Barcelona.

A huge part of the work of La Bassa Mar is networking and strengthening collaborations for intersectional trans* and queer movements on a local, regional and

international level. It offers opportunities to strategize, to connect with the sea, land and surrounding environment, as well as with one another.

What to expect

The aim of the post conference retreat is to offer a self-organized networking space for trans* inter*, non-binary and queer activists and scholars particularly those who are BIPoC and trans*. We can host about 15-20 people for this retreat. Accommodation costs are on a sliding scale but nobody will be turned away for lack of funds. More information about costs and other organizational details can be found on the form, linked at the end of this email. We will facilitate an introductory round each day followed by informal activities aimed at networking and sharing experiences, current research and projects, according to the wishes of participants. We will provide information and infrastructure while the program as well as the daily tasks ( grocery shopping, cooking, etc.) will be collectively cared for. As La Bassa Mar offers a space for recharging and processing individually and collectively, we will suggest various possible activities around the house, such as walks to the beach, hiking, reading sessions, gardening etc.

The space

The house consists of five shared rooms equipped with a combination of double beds, bunk beds, and single beds as well as a larger open shared sleeping space. There is also plenty of additional outdoor space for camping, on 1.5 hectare of land with centenary olive trees. The ground floor is entirely wheel-chair accessible. Please don’t hesitate to ask for more information or if you have any other questions.

If you are interested in participating, please fill out this form: https://forms.gle/3JakLo78Nqgtxw6q8 by 1st June 2025.

Looking forward to meeting you at La Bassa Mar!
